Brothers:
Bruce Pastorini will be leaving us for a tour of duty in Afghanistan with the Army Corp of Engineers, and George Coseo will assume the position of Financial Secretary. While working a full-time job, and heading-up an organization of contractors and construction engineers, Bruce has devoted a great deal of time to our council, not only as financial secretary, but also in initiating and coordinating our work with the Inn Ministry and the RSVP program. Due to Bruce’s diligent efforts we have managed to eliminate from our roles, and accordingly from our per capita billings, a large number of non-paying members – the benefit to our council may be well over $1,000 per year. On Tuesday, August 22nd at 7:00 in the Hall we will have a covered dish/ pot luck dinner to honor Bruce. The council will provide chicken. Please mark your calendars to attend
Also mark your calendars for the Christ the King School orientation on Saturday, August 19th. Fred Wheeler, John Klinkenberg, et al will need help cooking. We will have a Knights’ booth at the event to solicit new members, so please plan to come by and help with cooking and/or meeting.
Many of you were unable to attend the installation dinner and are not aware of our honorees for the 2005-2006 fraternal year. Jim Bonitatibus was named Knight of the Year. The Praxedes family was named Family of the Year. Additionally, a new award was handed-out which acknowledges a brother who made a major contribution to fraternalism within the council. This was the first Darwin “Bud” Stiles Award. The first honoree is Fred Wheeler. Please congratulate these honorees.
In the last Knightly News I discussed our having a wife’s appreciation dinner, possibly at Mayport Naval Base. To date we have been unable to set this up and, I am told it may be too late to schedule anything there for September. I still hope to have a fundraiser event as well as a hoe down/ rib BBQ in October or November. I do not want to schedule a wife’s appreciation event during this same period as the events may compete with each other. Therefore, unless one of you comes up with another venue, the wife’s appreciation function may be on hold for a while. Your ideas and suggestions for this activity, of course, are greatly appreciated. In this regard, I might remind you all that everyone is welcome to the officer’s meeting to present their ideas and suggestions regarding anything on the agenda. If you wish to be included in the agenda, let me know before hand.

Message
By Monsignor Danaher
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
On August 15th we celebrate
the Feast of the Assumption of Our Blessed Mother into Heaven. This feast gives
us a chance to reflect on Mary’s roll in our salvation. Jesus worked his first
miracle while he was on Earth because his Mother asked him. At first he said we
are guests at the wedding and his hour had not come to start his public
ministry. Mary then told the people in charge at the wedding reception to “Do
whatever he tells you”. They had no more wine so
Jesus told the
waiters to bring in the water jars filled with water. Jesus then changed the
water into wine. He worked this miracle because his Mother asked him. Mary says
to us to “Do whatever He tells you”
Peace and Love,
Msgr. Mortimer Danaher

Seventh
Death Reported from Medical Abortion
As reported at a meeting of scientists from the nation's leading health agencies, a seventh death was linked to a medical abortion. The announcement was made May 11 during the Food and Drug Administration's meeting to discuss the safety of the abortion drug RU-486, Six other women have died after taking RU-486, according to health officials. Five of the women were found to have died from an infection caused by a rare bacterium. Although the seventh death was not a result of the use of RU-486, the victim was given a pill-based combination of drugs to induce abortion. The latest death occurred in a midwestern state.

Britain
Rejects Assisted Dying Bill
On May 12, the British House of Lords rejected "The Assisted Dying for the Terminally Ill" measure to allow physician assisted suicide. After seven hours of debate, the peers voted 148-100 to effectively end attempts to pass an aid-in-dying law. Lord Ian McColl, a surgeon, led the charge in opposition of the proposed law, describing it as "morally indefensible and completely unnecessary." The bill would have allowed physicians to prescribe drugs to a terminally ill person for the purpose of ending his or her own life.

Did you purchase a new house recently?
Congratulations! On a more sobering note, this is one of the biggest purchases
you’ll ever make – and probably came with a sizable mortgage.
There’s no question that such a large
obligation should be factored into your life insurance planning. The real
question is which type of policy would best meet your needs.
“Mortgage insurance” is actually a form of
decreasing-term insurance. The face amount decreases as your principal balance
decreases. If you die, the balance of your mortgage will be paid off.
You can also purchase individual term life
insurance with a decreasing benefit, and the K of C offers this type of policy.
Your beneficiaries could choose not to pay off the mortgage balance, and
instead use the death benefit for some other purpose (education, retirement
savings, etc.)
Don’t rule out permanent life insurance for
mortgage protection. The fact is, many people move frequently during their
adult years, often to more expensive housing. Owing a mortgage becomes a
permanent obligation that doesn’t diminish - and, in fact, may increase. A
permanent policy would be a wise buy in such situation.
Buying a house is a
hectic time. I can help make it a little bit less stressful by outlining your
mortgage insurance options for you. Call me anytime.

If you have financial problems call GK Scobie at 904-723-3977, he has waived FY2007 dues for those Brothers in need.
Brothers there is still confusion on the June 15, 2006 FY 2007 dues billing. Many of you were still paying calendar year (December to December) many Associate Members had $24 arrears or $24 credit.
Your June bill listed past due amount (or credit). You were to pay past due dues plus as a minimum 1st quarter of FY2007 dues.
I processed payments during my vacation and sent out white FY2007 “travel cards” with the correct expiration date. For those members who just paid past dues your card expires 9/30/2006. Please don’t be surprised if you receive an unexpected Second Notice.
I resigned at July 11th meeting but will work as Council FS until replaced. Of the 79 non-dues paying “Ghosts” we are now down to 12 members currently with Knight Alert letters. GK Scobie wrote of District and State pressure to not eliminate these members from Council 4727 rolls even though most had three or more years dues arrears. I want to let our members know our GK Dennis Scobie is a man of integrity who I appreciated working for.

There will be no teen dance until September. Have a great summer off.
Last month we listed “ad’s” of a few members suggesting we use them or at least give them a shot. We hope to have more in coming months and develop an insert page, which could be posted on the refrigerator for quick reference. We would be asking a fee for this to help with the news bulletin cost. Contact Ralph Mostly for more info.
