Grand Knight's Report
By Dennis Scobie

Brothers:

At the last business meeting I discussed our having other fundraisers besides the Golf Tournament and Benefit Ball. In particular I would like to send St. Michael's medals to the troops in the Middle East, as Butch Ferrizzi did a few years ago. Since our meeting, Frank Japour, Administrator at Christ the King, has responded affirmatively to my suggestion to do a pancake breakfast fundraiser to help Christ the King School. I am trying to get a date in early October to coincide with our membership blitz. I'll keep you all abreast of this. If this works out I believe we should do a fundraiser for Resurrection as well. At this time, however, we have a heavy agenda of activities for the Fall, and I for one do not have much additional time to coordinate other fundraisers anytime before 2006, particularly since we need to commence planning for the Benefit Ball before year's end. Anyway, following up on a suggestion from Bob Knutson, I will be asking the Donations Committee to consider purchasing St. Michael's medals from the Council's existing funds. This will have to go to Council vote. I have written Monsignor Joseph LaMonde, a Marine chaplain many of our members know, to determine how we may get medals distributed to troops overseas.

So many of our Council's brothers and their families warrant consideration as Knight of the Month and Family of the Month. I would appreciate input from each and every one of you concerning worthy recipients of these awards. If there is a member or family you believe is particularly deserving, at any time during the fraternal year, please fell free to bring this to my attention.

Congratulations to the 2004-2005 Knight of the Year, Bill Damato, and Louis and Darlene O'Neal, the Family of the Year. I'm sure these were tough picks for Al, but well deserving. These folks do so much for so many people. They truly make a positive difference in the lives of others and provide an inspiration to many of us.

In accordance with our bylaws we will continue the 4th Tuesday meetings to discuss new business. In September I will have pizza for attendees, so try to get to the Hall by 7:00 and enjoy some billiards, cards, camaraderie, etc. before the meeting. Also we will again host a Teen Dance, in September at the CK Hall. Due to conflicts on the other Fridays in the month, this particular dance will be on Friday, the 23rd, with most of the future dances planned for the 2nd Friday of the month. One last thing - Ralph is working on wives' appreciation night and it should be a very special one. More on that at the next meeting!

In unity fraternity and charity,

Dennis

Chaplains Message
By Monsignor Danaher

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We know that some of our fellow Catholics do not go to mass on Sundays. According to research many are coming back even if they joined other Religions because they realize that Catholicism has the fullness of truth and grace. The Catholic Church was not founded by a single reformer or historical movement. The Church is not fragmented by individual interpretation of the Bible. Today there are thousands of Christian denominations, but only one Catholic Church, which has been guided and protected by the Holy Father from generation to generation for two thousand years.

How can we help?

Peace and Love,
Msgr. Mortimer Danaher

Knight of the Month
August 2005

My selection for Knight of the Month is Al Martin. Since turning over the reins as Grand Knight, Al has not slowed down one bit. Not only is he our District Deputy, he remains actively involved in numerous church ministries. All this and he is also our Council's membership director for the 2005-2006 fraternal year. I would bet our October Blitz will be very successful.

Family of the Month
August 2005

The Family of the Month is the Mosleys, Ralph and Shirley. Ralph contributes to our Council on an ongoing basis, in so many ways. Wait until you see what he has in-store for the next Wives' Appreciation Dinner. Shirley tackled, head on, the task of preparing and decorating the hall for the Installation Dinner. She is also the new President of the K'Cees and the creator of our scrapbooks that have won the last two State competitions.

RIGHT TO LIFE

LIFE CHAIN

This annual event will take place in various cities throughout the Diocese on Sunday, October 2, from 2-3 PM.  In Jacksonville the location will be on Atlantic Blvd., from Monument Road eastward. In Orange Park on Kingsley Avenue. In Jacksonville Beach on 3rd Street.  Life Chain is a visual and prayerful witness to the sanctity of human life. It serves as a reminder to the public that the destruction of innocent human lives in this country continues at a rate of over 4,000 per day. All may participate in this demonstration; wives, children, neighbors, or anyone else opposed to the abortion industry.  For more detailed information, contact Tom Masters, (904) 998-8577.

The Advantages of Children’s Policies

It’s quiet at home, now that the kids have gone back to school. If you and your spouse have sufficient life insurance for yourselves, you may want to investigate policies for your children.

There are a variety of reasons why the K of C encourages members to consider purchasing policies for their children. The most important one is that someday, your children will go off to college, start careers, buy homes, get married, and have families of their own. By starting low-cost children’s policies now, you can help them meet this future need.

A guaranteed purchase option rider lets your child purchase additional coverage on six future occasions without evidence of insurability. Doing so will cost much less than if they have to purchase their own policies as adults.

What if your child develops a medical condition later on? If you’ve already started the policy, this won’t be an obstacle to obtaining coverage – nor will your child be placed in a prohibitive rate class.

Last but not least, the cash value of a permanent life insurance policy is one more Source of funds for meeting your child’s future financial needs. What’s more, the cash value increases over time and any dividend declared will increase these values.

Helping to secure a more financially stable adulthood tomorrow for a member’s child today is a worthwhile endeavor for a fraternal benefit society such as the K of C. It’s also a logical extension of our Order’s mission to “protect families for generations.” Talk to me to find out more.

Softball News

Season ends for 2005

The Knights softball season came to a close with the City Metro Tournament. In fact it came to a close very quickly with a loss in the first game.

This was one of the best teams we have fielded in many years. We had an outstanding year on both halves of our league and I don’t think you can ask for more than that from your players. I would personally like to thank all the team members with this years team and especially Dave Pellicer who helped coach the team, even though he had a busy schedule between work and family, and Dave Fowler who assisted as well.

My current plan is to step down as coach and manager and turn the team over to Dave Pellicer. After 20 plus years its time. I have a lot of great memories over the years and I still have a lot of things I want to do one of which is to spend more time with my family. I still plan to support the team and play from time to time.

Before the end of the year I hope to have an old timers game. I know we have enough former players to fill the line ups of two teams.

I will keep you posted when we can establish a date. If you are interested in an old timers game you can E-mail me at: heuy@aol.com

Thanks,

Coach Tom
