Brothers:
This month…just some comments, accolades, announcements, etc.
I was unable to attend First Friday Mass, but
I have been told it was one of the best-attended Masses in a long time. I
believe the turnout was due in large part to George and Laura Morris for their
efforts in promoting this function and in particular for the Oktoberfest dinner
they provided. Please try to attend these Masses, and invite your friends. Dinner
will be served after Mass. All we ask for is a donation to offset the cost.
Our November 4th, First Friday
Mass is our annual Memorial Mass for our brothers who have passed-away. The
K-Cees will provide food, afterwards.
The pancake breakfast we did on October 9th
for Christ the King netted over $600 for the School and Church facilities
improvements. We had over a dozen council members help with cooking, cleanup,
collecting donations, and soliciting new memberships. Tim Stack set up a table
and sold some of the Halloween items we had in the Hall. I received many
compliments on the breakfast.
During the same
weekend as the CK breakfast, Tom Harrington and Company (Mark Sciullo, Jim
Bonnie, Al Martin, and I’m probably missing someone) did a stellar job with the
membership blitz at Immaculate Conception. I am so encouraged, by the response
they received, not only from parishioners but also from Father Leon, that we
now plan to use the pancakes and sausage remaining from CK to provide breakfast
at IC. Once Tom sets a date I’ll let everyone know.
Our October teen dance was the most
successful yet. Over 190 kids attended. Kathy and Benoit DesClefs did a great
job of advertising the event at all the area Catholic schools. We grossed over
$1,200. The next dance is November 11th.
In October we also conducted Spelling-B’s at
Christ the King and Resurrection Schools, delivered 30 bibles to Lucille
Guzzione for religious education at Christ the King, and held a chili cook-off
with ten competitors and over forty attendees.
Please read your
November calendar, and see you all at the Memorial Mass.
In unity fraternity and charity,
Dennis

Message
By Monsignor Danaher
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
The teaching of our Church is and
always was that the human person, created in the image of God, is a being
corporal and spiritual. ”The Lord God formed man of the dust from the ground
and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life: and men became a living
being” Gen 2:7 . In Sacred Scripture
the term “Soul” often refers to human life or the entire human person. The Soul
is created immediately by God. It is not produced by the parents and it is
immortal and will never die. I’m
giving this teaching of our Church for two reasons: 1) Some teach we are only
dust and 2) Nov. 2nd is All Souls Day when we are reminded to pray
for our deceased. Could you go to mass one day a week besides Sunday? Could you
say an extra Rosary each day?
Peace and Love,
Msgr. Mortimer Danaher
Knight
of the Month
October 2005
My selection for Knight of the Month is Tom Harrington. Tom
steps-forward to help the Council whenever we need him. He has been a valuable
help to me on many occasions. He
attends and assists with most Council activities. I am particularly pleased
with the work he did in October, at his suggestion, in setting up, promoting
and conducting the membership blitz at Immaculate Conception. The blitz
resulted in a number of new members. The relationship he has established with
IC is one that may well be long term and fruitful for both our Council and the
Parish.
Family of the
Month
October 2005
The Family of the Month is the Morris
family. George and Laura have done an outstanding job of promoting attendance
at our First Friday Masses. Attendance has risen due to their efforts. The
Oktoberfest dinner after the last Mass received a lot of compliments. Also, in
October, George and Laura held their annual chili-cook-off at the Hall. Over
forty people attended. There were ten pots of chili in competition. Everyone had a great time.

Defense
of the Unborn is more important than ever before.
Partial-birth abortion, for
example, has been effectively legalized for the time being. The high court
issued a tragic ruling in the case of Stenberg v. Carhart. In a slender 5-4
vote, the court ruled that Nebraska's ban on partial birth abortion was
unconstitutional. But Justice Antonin Scalia said in his biting dissent: "
I am optimistic enough to believe that , one day, Stenberg v. Carhart will be
assinged its rightful place in the history of this Court's jurisprudence beside
Korematsu and Dred Scott. This method of killing a human child- one cannot even
accurately say an entirely unborn child- proscribed by this statute is so
horrible that the most clinical description of it evokes a shudder of
revulsion".
Justice Anthony Kennedy, in his
dissent, declared that states ought to be free to "forbid a procedure so
many decent and civilized people find abhorrent."
And Justice Clarence Thomas
called the majority's ruling "indefensible"; it amounts to an
endorsement of infanticide," he
said. Is partial -birth abortion a "widely accepted routine medical
procedure"? "Nothing could be further from the truth," Justice
Thomas stated. In fact it's " so gruesome that its use can be traumatic
even for the physicians and medical staff who perform it," he pointed out
." And the particular procedure at issue in this case,'partial- birth
abortion,' so closely borders on infanticide that 30 States have attempted to
ban it."

Law and Justice's October news-letter)
PRO-ABORTION
INITIATIVES
Wayne and Delores
Weaver, the owners of the Jaguars have sponsored several pro abortion and
contraception initiatives. This
includes direct support of Planned Parenthood, the world's largest abortion
provider. We are looking into a
write-in or petition campaign to encourage the Weavers to reconsider their
support of these institutions. More
information will be available at the next business meeting from Mark Sciullo.
This annual event
will take place in various cities throughout the Diocese on Sunday, October 2,
from 2-3 PM. In Jacksonville the
location will be on Atlantic Blvd., from Monument Road eastward. In Orange Park
on Kingsley Avenue. In Jacksonville Beach on 3rd Street. Life Chain is a visual and prayerful witness
to the sanctity of human life. It serves as a reminder to the public that the
destruction of innocent human lives in this country continues at a rate of over
4,000 per day. All may participate in this demonstration; wives, children,
neighbors, or anyone else opposed to the abortion industry. For more detailed information, contact Tom
Masters, (904) 998-8577.
We all know and appreciate the
good work the Knights of Columbus does for the Church and charitable causes.
But did you know that our insurance program is an essential part of the Order?
Protecting families from
economic adversity has been a key part of the Knights of Columbus mission since
its founding in 1882. Our founders passed the hat to support the widows and
children of Brother Knights who had died. We’ve grown into one of the largest
individual life insurers in North America – with more than $38 billion of
individual life insurance in force.
Moreover, contrary to some
misconceptions, our insurance program is not directed in any way by a “separate
company” and never has been.
Our insurance is available
exclusively to members, their wives, and their dependent children. All field
agents – including me – are themselves Brother Knights. We all work full-time
for the K of C, serving the needs of you and your family and answering any questions
you have.
In this day and age, personal attention has
become rare – but in the K of C, we specialize in it. In fact, it’s our job to
get to know you and your family, and to make ourselves available to you for
assistance. We are different from other insurers – and that difference
greatly benefits our members. Give me a call to find out more about how the K
of C has been "Protecting Families for Generations.” Call me today.

November 20th is the Feast of Christ the King. Our Council in the past has cooked breakfast for the parish on that day. This year a lunch is planned. The Church has asked us to cook for this event. Those wishing to help should contact the Grand Knight.
Last month we listed “ad’s” of a few members suggesting we use them or at least give them a shot. We hope to have more in coming months and develop an insert page, which could be posted on the refrigerator for quick reference. We would be asking a fee for this to help with the news bulletin cost. Contact Ralph Mostly for more info.
