Goodbye to Year 2001. Not a
very good year for many in our country.
A year that certainly has had an effect on all of us. A year that impressed on us how fragile
we are and how quickly our existence on earth can end.
Hello to year 2002 a brand new year. Let us all pray that never again
will there be such events as witnessed in 2001 anywhere in this world. A new year to live and life does go on.
I believe that our Council had a successful year and extend many thanks
to the officers, committee chairmen, degree teams, brothers, newsletter editors
and the ladies of the K-Cee's who made everything happen. Without your diligence and commitment
nothing would get accomplished.
To our many brothers that we hardly ever see perhaps it is time to make
that New Year's resolution to get involved. We need you all.
Happy New Year to all of you and God Bless.

of the Month - December 2001 Charles and Linda Crissman
Note: The Knight and Family of the Month published in the December 2001 Knightly News were selected for the Month of November 2001 not December 2001 as published. Sorry for the error.
It's that time of the year and we
think of relations. How can I make a difference in my family my community and
my country?
Here is a resolve for you. Today
so many of your own people miss mass on Sunday = No excuse = just need help. I
suggest that we consider going to mass an extra day during the week.
The
greatest prayer we have is the mass. We can make up what our Greetings with
love and best wishes for a happy New Year. The greatest prayer we have is the
mass. We can make up what our brothers and sisters are missing and our good
example speaks volumes.
Love and
Peace,
Msgr.

Happy New Year!
As we begin a new year, may we see
peace in our world.
Our charity Christmas social was very
successful. Thanks and blessings to all the ladies who helped to make it so. The
food was delicious and plentiful. Our charity fundraiser was lucrative. Special
thanks to Betty Wheeler and Helen Prescott for handling the raffle and
dinner/dance funds. Many thanks, also, to Jenny Oliver for donating the
beautiful gift basket and decorating two others. All proceeds went to the needy
families for Christmas. Jean Sell, our Community Service Chairperson, took care
of distributing the gifts to the neediest. A thank you to Laura Morris for the
lovely decorations. Again, thank you to each and every one of you who helped in
so many ways.
We are planning a white elephant
auction (exact date pending), think about what you could bring.
If you have not paid your dues of
$15.00 by now, please, mail your check to Helen Prescott, 10318 Debutante Dr.
S., Jacksonville, Fl. 32246.
Plan to attend our next K-Cee's
meeting, Tuesday, January 22, 2002, at 8 P.M., in the Rectory of Christ the
King.
Blessings to all,
Wanda
Do you know that the Knights of Columbus can offer you IRA's
and Keogh Plans (U.S.), as well as RRSP's (Canada)? Do you know enough about
them to decide whether or not they fit into your financial picture?
I would
like you to answer these Questions:
1. Are you, like most people, interested in saving money?
2. Do you find it difficult to save under common saving
methods?
3. Take the number of years you've been working times your
average salary. What percentage of that income have you saved so far? How much
will you save in the future?
If your
answers bother you, I would like the chance to sit and talk with you and your
wife, (of course) about our alternatives-annuities and tax-sheltered savings at
highly competitive interest rates. You need not look anywhere else but your own
Order for your financial needs. Other institutions bombard you with ads for
business at this time of year. We just keep doing what we have been doing since
Father McGivney founded the Order-taking care of our members and their
families.

"God has wonderful soldiers on earth. Each of you is one of them." That was the message Rosa Ferrer Valentin sent in a thank you note to the Knights of Columbus on behalf of her family. Rosa's brother, Santos Valetin Jr., was a New York Police Department Emergency Services Unit officer who lost his life rescuing others in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Valentin's family, along with 416 other families of emergency medical technicians, firefighters and police officers each have received $3,000 checks from the Knights of Columbus from a special $1 million Knights of Columbus Heroes Fund established Sept. 12 by the Order. The checks were given to the families of all deceased heroes regardless of whether they were Catholics or members of the Knights. The fund was created with $500,000 from the Supreme Council and more than $500,000 raised and donated by local Knights of Columbus units throughout North America and elsewhere. A total of $1,251,000 in Heroes Fund benefits has been disbursed.
Hope this finds all in good health and ready for 2002. Our first meeting will be a Special ACA
Meeting to discuss the Hartsfield property. The Diocese has put us on notice that we must resolved the
zoning issue within 60 days or they will return our deposit and cancel our
agreement. I do not think we can
bring this issue to conclusion in sixty days or in six months. All indications
are that we cannot get past the Planning and Zoning boards and if we do the City
Council will shoot it down. We
have looked at some very promising location/buildings that we think would suite
our needs, both square footage and parking. I hope to have more on this at the
January meeting. There is a
pending motion from our last meeting and scheduled for a vote in January. Fred Wheeler
presented the motion to drop the request for zoning exception; Troupe Turner
seconded the motion.
Ralph Mosley
ACA President
There will be a special ACA Meeting after the 1st regular meeting on Tuesday Jan 8,
2002. Please plan to attend both.
The Tootsie Roll Drive for 2002 will be held February 22nd
and 23rd. This event collects
money for mentally handicapped citizens in Jacksonville. Brother Knights are posted outside
locations such as Publix or Winn Dixie and “give away” tootsie rolls. Donations are collected and distributed
to several needy organizations such as Cerebral Palsy, Harbor House, Handicapped
Girl Scouts and Challenger (Handicapped) Little League Baseball. We like to
have members participate in a two-hour shift on either Friday afternoon or any
time Saturday. The more members
helping reduce the chance that others will have to work more than one
shift. Money counters and runners
are also needed. We will be making
calls to recruit help for this worthwhile event. Please reserve some time on either Friday afternoon or
Saturday to help.
Thanks,
Gerry Kistka and Tom Heusinger

The
following is a statement by US President George W. Bush read by Congressman
Chris Smith at Monday's March For Life in Washington, DC:
Good
afternoon, friends and fellow citizens.
Two days
ago, Americans gathered on the Washington Mall to celebrate our nation's
ideals. Today, you are gathered to remind our country that one of those ideals
is the infinite value of every life.
I deeply
appreciate your message and your work. You see the weak and the defenseless,
and you try to help them. You see the hardship of many young mothers and their
unborn children, and you care for them both. In so many ways, you make our
society more compassionate and welcoming.
We share a
great goal: to work toward a day when every child is welcomed in life and
protected in law. We know this will not come easily, or all at once. But the
goal leads us onward: to build a culture of life, affirming that every person,
at every stage and season of life, is created in God's image.
The
promises of our Declaration of Independence are not just for the strong, the
independent or the healthy. They are for everyone - including unborn children.
We are a society with enough compassion and wealth and love to care for both
mothers and their children, to seek the promise and potential in every human
life.
I believe
that we are making progress toward that goal. I trust in the good hearts of
Americans. I trust in the unfolding promise of our country - an expanding
circle of inclusion and protection. And I trust in the civility and good sense
of our citizens - a willingness to engage our differences in a spirit of
tolerance and good will.
All of you
marching today have never tired in a good cause. Thank you for your conviction,
your idealism, and your courage. May God bless you all.
George W. Bush
