Brothers All,
By the time this newsletter reaches you, unless some last minute problem arises, the closing on our new council home will have been completed. A number of brothers have voiced concerns regarding this facility especially concerning parking availability. The neighboring businesses have graciously granted us permission to use their space, when available, and as long as we remain good neighbors this arrangement should be satisfactory. The decision by the majority of members at the last general ACA meeting to authorize the ACA to move forward with the purchase indicates to me that they felt the positives outweighed the negatives. We can now move forward in making this facility our new council home.
Thanks to Pat Bianco, Tom Heusinger and Gerry Kistka for their fine work in organizing our "Tootsie Roll" drive this year. Many thanks also to all of the brothers that signed up to handle the collection of the donations at the various locations. And a very special thanks to Dolores Bianco for once again graciously allowing us to use her home as the headquarters for the drive.
Congratulations to all of our new brothers who experienced the exemplification of the Third Degree on Saturday February 16th. I am sorry that I was not able to be with you at this special occasion and trust that you found the Degree rewarding as you completed the last step to becoming a Knight of Columbus.
Happy St. Patrick's Day to all of our brothers of Irish descent. This is your day. We all join with you in your celebration.
As we journey through this Lenten period of penance, let us pray for the end of the conflicts that rage around the world and that peace will come to all those in harms way.
May all of you experience a blessed and Happy Easter.

Now that
we are well into the Season of Lent we all are aware that it is a season of
prayer, fasting and charitable work. When we prepare in this manner we are
preparing to renew at Easter our Baptismal promises and our commitment to be
full-fledged disciples of Jesus. Lent means penance but as we grow spiritually
we realize that this can be a season full of joy and hope. We are called to
live the gospel more fully and with a generous heart. Good stewardship means my
time, talent and treasure are loaned to me to promote God's kingdom on Earth so
that I can enjoy my mansion in heaven.
Blessings
Galore,
Msgr.
Mortimer Danaher
There will be a 1st Friday Mass in the
Shirley David Hall on March 1.
Only coffee will be served during Lent after Mass.
Our garage sale will be coming up in
April, date not set yet. I am
asking for a volunteer to have the garage sale at your home, call Wanda if you
can help (744-4302).
Our March meeting will be held on
September 26, 8:00 P.M., in the Rectory.
God bless.
Wanda
First Friday Mass has been successful with attendance. Thanks to Augie for his effort in keeping this special activity going. Mass is celebrated each First Friday at 7PM in the Shirley David Hall.
It may happen, we could be in by late March or April for sure. The EPA Phase 1 was completed and the findings were inconclusive. The report had no concerned for our site but that of the adjacent property and suggested it could have had an impact on our site. Further investigation by one of our members, his job function is to do this type of investigation for the state, he found the tanks had been removed in 1979. He also explained the report and its findings after which a discussion followed by all.
The Council agreed that we should not pursue the Phase 2 ($ 8,000) just to tell us our land is OK. We had 20 years of Mother Nature working on any contaminants that may have filter over. Would it affect the sale of the property in later years? If Phase 2 gave us a clean bill of health today, that would not tell you about the site 5 or 10 years from now.
Death and taxes are the only sure thing in Life. We cannot do anything about taxes but pay them but we can work on the other and be prepared.
Parking will always be a concerned. If you have occasion to use Bivins Tire let them know who you are. If we remain good neighbors then I see no problem; let us all do our part.
I cannot thank my Directors and Offices enough for their time and support in our search for a new home. There's work to do yet, we will have to come together to make it happen. Lets pray that soon we put the call out for volunteers with hammers, screwdrivers, saws and the like.

Steve Bell has come up with a unique way to identify us at functions and gatherings. Shirts will have the K of C logo and Council number, may also allow for name or initial. The more we order the less each shirt will be, Steve will refund if cost is less.
Please complete the enclosed form and return it to Steve.
The annual Tootsie Roll Drive for 2002 was a success. We collected a grand total of $5878 - an 8% increase over last year. After paying for the candy and the State's 10% that is donated state wide to Special Olympics we will distribute more than $800 to each of six charities. These are Special Olympics, Sunny Acres, Harbor House, Classroom Scouts, Challenger Baseball and Cerebral Palsy. Thanks to all of you Brother Knights that helped in this wonderful cause. Even with the rainy and cold weather the spirits of all the workers was beautiful to see. Thanks to you who volunteered for two shifts thus lightening the load on others. Thanks to all of those who worked the masses at Resurrection Church and Christ the King Church. A special thanks to all those that spent most of the day either Friday or Saturday, or both, counting money, making pickups or working unmanned shifts at the stores. These included George Coseo GK, Pat Bianco, Troupe Turner, Al Williams, Ward Berkey, Ann Heusinger and Claire Heusinger. Thanks for the extra help from Tom Guggisberg PGK, Sherry Kistka, Sarah Kistka, and Christopher Fowler. If the word gets out about Dolores Bianco's hospitality and cooking for the Tootsie Roll Center's workers we will probably se an increase in volunteers for next year. Thanks Dolores! For those who were unable to work we hope that we can count on you for next year. For those that will not work please pray for a handicapped person that you might know.

Human
Cloning is an effort to create humans as copies of other humans. It is done by
taking genetic material from a person's body cell and injecting it into an egg,
which is then stimulated to begin embryonic development. The cloned embryo is
almost identical to the person whose body cell was used.
Human
cloning is wrong, because it dehumanizes human reproduction.
The
effective and morally acceptable way to prevent human cloning is to forbid its
use to make new humans in the first place. The Human Cloning Prohibition Act of
2001 (S790, H.R.2505) will achieve this important goal.
The U.S.
Senate will likely vote on the Human Cloning Prohibition Act of 2001 (S.790,
H.R. 2505) in late February or March. Please write (or call) Senators Nelson
and Graham to SUPPORT this Act!
Also urge
the Senators to OPPOSE the counterproposal, sponsored by Senator Dianne
Feinstein (S. 1758) that would permit the cloning of human embryos and the
establishment of human embryo farms. The bill is misleadingly described as a
"ban on human cloning", but it defines "human cloning" in a
manner that allows human embryos to be created by cloning, while making it a
crime to allow any such human embryo to live by implanting him or her in a
womb. This "Clone and kill" sham must be defeated before the Senate
can pass a true ban on human cloning.
