Grand Knight’s Report

Fellow Knights,

I wish to thank everyone for his or her help in making the Installation of Officers event on 8/25 a success.The wives of my fellow officers, ladies from the K-Cees, brother knights and friends who spent Saturday afternoon with my wife arranging and decorating the hall, Tom Guggisburg (our master chef) who did the shopping and with his crew of brother knights prepared, cooked and served the dinner which I believe everyone enjoyed, and to the clergy, Sister Therese, brother knights and their wives and families and guests who attended and made it an enjoyable and memorable evening.

Congratulations to Steve Bell for receiving the council's "Knight of the Year" award for 2000-2001 fraternal year and to Don and Joanne Thompson being selected as the council's "Family of the Year" 2000-2001.

On a more somber note the events of Sept. 11th in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania have truly affected all of us one way or another.It was truly a horrendous evil attack on innocent people and there is little I can say that hasn't been said over and over by many others.

If you haven't already heard, our Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson in a news conference on Thursday Sept. 13th announced that the Knights of Columbus has established a $1 million "Knights of Columbus Heroes Fund" for families of full-time professional law enforcement officers, firefighters and emergency medical personnel who have lost their lives or may yet lose the lives in the rescue and recovery efforts underway at the World Trade Center and Pentagon.The families those men and women will each receive $3000 from the Knights of Columbus.

Please keep all of those lost in this horrible attack in your daily prayers. Also pray for our country's leaders that they will be able to bring to justice those responsible for this inhuman act without inflicting further harm to other innocent citizens of any country. May God hold us in the palm of his hands.

The events of the recent weeks have been called a wake-up call. Jesus is the answer and for us Catholics the greatest act we can do as a community is to attend the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. The first Friday mass for October is on the 6th of the month at Christ the King at 7:00 p.m. Jesus says “can you watch one hour with me?

Dear Brothers: If you need inspiration to participate in the "Super 100", please read the following letter:

Dear Mike,

I am a long time member of Christ the King Church and my father was a member of the Knights of Columbus my entire life. Therefore, I receive copies of the Knightly News. In the August 2001 issue I read the portion dealing with the 4727 "Super 100" and wondered if I might be able to contribute in memory of my father, John J. Hughes, Jr. A check is enclosed and I hope you will be able to accept it.

Keep up the good work and thanks for allowing me to assist in such a worthwhile cause.

K’CEE’s Korner

Dear K-Cees's,

I want to thank all who attended our Tea (23rd) and thank all who brought such wonderful and delicious refreshments.  Everyone enjoyed the afternoon.

Check your roster and make sure all the addresses and phone numbers are correct.  We also would like to have the month and day of your birthday.  Any change or additions, please call Laura Morris, VP (220-7671)

We will be having our Christmas Charity Dinner/Dance on Dec 1.  We are looking for some donations for our Major Charity Raffle.  Please, call Wanda (744-4302) or Laura (220-7671).  Ideas would be appreciated.

Our first K-Cees Meeting was held on 9/25 with 21 members present.

First Friday Mass, October 5, 7pm, Shirley David Hall.  Msgr. Danaher, KC Chaplin, will offer Mass.  Please gring dessert or cold drinks.  Coffee will be available.

ACA News

Sorry but not much progress to report. Unless someone knows how to move the City Planning Commission or has connections we will just have to let things take its course. We did submit a retainer towards Mr. Harden’s fee; I had hoped this would bring some response. I will continue in my efforts to contact Mr. Harden at his office.Some of the building committee looked at property at Macy Ave. and Cesery. One major drawback was the available parking, approx. 25 spaces.The building was around 4000-sq. ft. and would lend itself to what would be a small hall with offices and meeting rooms. We felt we still had to pursue the Hartsfield Rd acreage.
