Brothers,
"STAR COUNCIL" - CONGRATULATIONS - As most of you probably
know our council earned this award for the 2001-2002 fraternal year presented
by Supreme Council in recognition of excellence in volunteer fraternal and
charitable activities as well as membership recruitment and insurance
promotion.
Thank you all: to the brothers that recruited new members ensuring our
meeting the new membership quota, to Jim "Bonnie" our insurance agent
for ensuring we achieved our new insurance member quota, to our Program
Director and the Committee Chairmen for developing the activities necessary to
achieve the recognition of excellence in fraternal and charitable activities
and to all of you who participated in and supported these programs. YOU EARNED THIS AWARD.
Only 1370 out of over 12000 councils in the Order received this
recognition. I am very proud of
all of you.
On Saturday, September 7th, Mike Yarborough, Jim and Mary Ann Middleton
and myself attended the dedication ceremony of Florida's First Coast Memorial
for the Unborn, sponsored by the First Coast Women's Services, located at the
corner of North Laura and West Beaver Streets in downtown Jacksonville. It was a very moving dedication and is a
very impressive memorial. The
Knights of Columbus, through the Florida State K of C Charities program, was a
major financial contributor to this memorial through the Women's Services
Group. Drop by and spend a few
moments at the memorial. You won't
regret it.
"The road to success in not straight. There are curves called Failures; loops called Confusion; speed bumps called Friends; red lights called Enemies, caution lights called Family, and flats called Jobs. But, if you have a spare called Determination; an engine called Perseverance; insurance called Faith, and a driver called Jesus, you will make it to a place called Success!"
Peace to all.

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Greetings
with love!
October
is another month that we turn our thoughts to Mary our Mother. When she
appeared at Fatima in 1917 she told the children if Catholics said enough
Rosaries another war would not follow. We know the rest of the story. This is
another time when we need our families on their knees praying the Rosary.
Fifteen minutes a day out of our busy daily lives will help our whole world.
The family that prays together stays together.
Love and
Peace,
Msgr.

Did you know that you can establish a Roth IRA through the Knights of Columbus? If you haven't set up a Roth IRA for this year, there's still time to take advantage of this great way to save for retirement.
You can now save up to $3,000 per year, minus the amounts contributed to other IRAs. The limit is $3,500 for people over 50. The total you can contribute also depends on your income, but you can do so regardless of whether you participate in a pension plan.
Although your contributions aren't deductible, the long-range benefits of a Roth IRA should be compared to those of a traditional IRA. For starters, many people earn too much for a traditional IRA to be a tax deduction. And with a Roth IRA you avoid the age-70 ½ minimum distribution requirements that come with a traditional IRA.
You can establish a Roth IRA, and make your yearly contribution up to the date you file your tax return for that year (excluding extensions). But annual contributions to a Roth IRA aren't required. All interest you earn is federal income tax-free, provided you withdraw your funds under certain “qualified distribution” rules.
If you'd like more information about Roth IRAs - or traditional IRAs - I can help. But do it soon. Saving as much as you can for retirement is always a wise move, and the earlier you start, the better. Call me today.

At the Sept.10 meeting a motion was made for the council to allocate $625.00 for the purpose of having a Congratulatory Celebration for our Brother D.J. Stoddard who has been named to the Supreme Board of Directors. This is an honor surpassing that of State Deputy that Dennis previously held. We can rightfully be proud of Dennis. The motion will be voted on at the Oct. 8th meeting.
This is just a reminder of the LIFE CHAIN. It will take place on Sunday Oct 6th, from 2:00pm to 3:00pm. It will start on Atlantic Blvd. and Monument Road, going east on Atlantic Blvd. to St. Johns Bluff Road.
Archbishop Hurley Council will position themselves at St. John’s Bluff. Signs will be provided.
Brothers, we need to support this annual event. We are sending a message to the public; we are certainly greater in numbers. We can make the difference. This is something we believe in, not only as catholic but also as a Knight of Columbus. I am very proud that I am a catholic and certainly a Knight of Columbus. I can imagine having a solid line from Monument Road to St John Bluff. That would be fantastic, wouldn’t it!!!!
Please mark your calendar, and set aside just one hour to attend the Life Chain on Oct. 6 the.
Please pass this very important information throughout the council’s membership and give them the opportunity to participate in the Life Chain. Give them the opportunity to stand up and be counted.
Thanking you all in advance,
May the Good Lord Bless you all,
Gino

General Program Director, John A. McGivern, regrets to inform all that the Florida State Softball tournament, to be held in Jacksonville, September 28 weekend, has to be cancelled in that after the dust settles, there were only 3 committed teams. We regret this for those dedicated teams, but all of Florida Knights to please look at your
Council Programs and let’s move to make the rest of our Programs successful.
Thanks and God Bless,
John A. McGivern

We hope all have been by the hall and have seen the new sign facing the expressway. Thanks go out to Roy Baer Jr. and his contacts that made the sign for us. Thanks to my head Carpenter/Engineer, Jim Middleton and company, we had it up in time for first Friday Mass in September. The directors also approved replacing the large screen TV with two smaller 19” models, anyone in the market for a 51” TV. Our next project will be to remove the wall between the two rooms and install a 40' Accordion Door. The ACA has approved the proposal from Geo P. Coyle & Son (Vincent Coyle 1951 Council) for the installation. We will be providing the labor for the tear out of the wall and tile replacement, I would like to be complete before the holidays. This will give us a large area for dinners, dances and so forth while allowing privacy for our meetings.

Some
of you have signed the petition to Sen. Tom Daschle to allow the Partial Birth
Abortion bill (H. R. 4965) to be scheduled thru the Senate before the current
session ends (sometime in October). Those of you, who have copies of the
petition circulating, please gather them and return them to the National Right
