Grand Knight’s Report
By George Coseo

A sincere thanks to all of the brother knights who gave their time on Saturday, October 6th, to set-up, cook and serve the barbeque lunch at the dedication of the Sr. Therese Library at Christ The King School. I have receive thank you notes for Janet Morton, Principal of the School, and Father Thahn, Pastor of Christ the King Church, expressing their grateful appreciation for how you contributed to the success of the event.

Thanks also to Jim Bonitatibus and Mike Yarborough for organizing, promoting and handling of our golf tournament held on Sat. October 20th at Deerfield Lakes Golf Club. We had 45 golfers participate and all seemed to enjoy the event. Also thanks to Butch Ferrizzi and Ralph Mosley for handling the sign-in desk and myriad of tasks needed to make the event move smoothly. The net result should add some much needed revenue to our treasury.

In my October message I mentioned that our Supreme Council had established a $1 million "Knights of Columbus Heroes Fund" for the families of the police officers, firefighters and other emergency and medical rescue personnel who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of Sept 11th. The Supreme Council Office is providing $500,000 to the fund. The Knights of Columbus councils and assemblies have been asked to raise the remaining $500,000 through fundraisers or from their existing charitable funds. Individuals can also contribute directly to the fund. If you wish to make a personal donation the council will be glad to accept them and forward a combined donation to the fund. Your check can be made payable to K of C Council 4727 and noted "For the K of C Heroes Fund". Send the check to Don Thompson, Financial Secretary, 5314 Coppedge Ave., Jacksonville, Fl. 32277.  If, however, you wish to donate directly to the fund make the check payable to "Knights of Columbus Heroes Fund" and mail directly to:

Knights of Columbus Heroes Fund, C/O Supreme Master's Office, 1 Columbus Plaza, New Haven, Ct. 06510-3326

In a few short weeks we will be celebrating the thanksgiving holiday. In light of the recent events in our country and the ongoing problems Arising from them we may wonder how we can be thankful at this time. We can be thankful for all the caring people in this country that give their all to save others, that we have dedicated military and reserve personal that go forth to protect us and our interests leaving their loved ones behind, that we have our faith in God that He will see us through these difficult times and that we have each other.

May God's peace be with you all.

George

Chaplains Message
by Monsignor Danaher

The month of November is the month we remember. All Saints and All Souls on November 1st and 2nd.  All the people in heaven are saints. We hope all our loved ones who are deceased are Saints that is the Church Triumphant. We the Church on earth are called the church militant. We are still fighting for our crown of glory. The Souls in Purgatory are called the Church suffering. Nothing defiled shall enter heaven. We can help them by prayer, good works and always giving. Do your part, it may be worth your own Mom or Dad, Husband, Wife or child you help.

 Love and Peace,

Msgr. Mortimer Danaher

    FROM THE FINANCIAL SECRETARY

Dues Notices will be mailed during the middle of this month. As noted in a previous newsletter, we will be changing to a fiscal year billing of dues. This bill will be for $24.00 (a half years dues), which will cover dues only to June 30, 2002. The next dues collection will be for the period of July 1,2002 to June 30, 2003. That bill will be for the regular $48.00 yearly dues. This change puts us into the same time periods as our elected officers.

Thanks to all of our members for your excellent cooperation with the Councils financial programs.

"THINGS I'VE LEARNED"

I've learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow.

I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.

I've learned that, regardless of your relationships with your parents, you will miss them when they're gone from your life.

I've learned that making a "living" is not the same thing as making a "life."

I've learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance.

I've learned that you shouldn't go through life with a catcher's mitt on both hands. You need to be able to throw something back.

I've learned that if you pursue happiness, it will elude you. But, if you focus on your family, your friends, the needs of others, your work and doing the very best that you can, happiness will find you.

I've learned that whenever I decide something with an open heart, I usually make the right decision.

I've learned that even when I have pains, I don't have to be one.

I've learned that every day, you should reach out and touch someone. People love that human touch - holding hands, a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back. Sometimes they just need a little something to make them smile.

I've learned that I still have a lot to learn.

ACA News

November is here and I am sorry to say there has not been much progress to report. One of our members, Emil Handzel, asked if he could pursue our status with the City Planning Commission. He has a little more knowledge of the codes and working of that department and I appreciate his help. His answers were like the rest; it had been dropped from the agenda. That prompted me make a trip downtown, I won't go into details but I guess when I threaten to go to the Mayor office they recognized I was a little upset. That prompted a Mr. Paul Crawford out of his office and he took the time to pull the file and provide me with copies of pertinent documents and some explanation. So what do we know; a" Report of the Planning and Development Dept", dated Nov 19, 1999. This is I believe an internal document and has a recommendation of Denied. In addition, a "Notice of Public Hearing" scheduled for Nov 24, 1999. Mr. Paul Harden, Attorney, canceled this and I guess to review the "Report" or change tactics. This is of course an assumption on my part since Mr. Harden has not returned my calls. That brings us to Mr. Harden's letter dated April 27, 2001 requesting the exception E-99-163 be placed back on the agenda. We have not given up and maybe our only course of action is the Mayor office, newspaper, even using our local church bulletins/newspapers. Anybody close to the Mayor?  He is a Catholic I understand.
